Bronx River Parkway Skate and Bike Ride
Sunday, June 24th, 2012
Date: Sunday, June 24, 2012
This is a beautiful skate through southern Westchester on the traffic-free Bronx River Parkway. It's a curvy, rolling 7-mile stretch of a 4-lane parkway that is reserved for cycling and skating for 4 hours on some Sundays in May, June and September. The road is smooth, the bike traffic is light, and the hills are ‘just right’.
We’ll meet at the Westchester County Center near the White Plains train station (Metro North Harlem Line) at 11:30AM and to get rolling at 11:45 sharp, since we have to be off the Parkway by 2PM.
From the County Center, we'll skate/bike the Parkway to Bronxville, Scarsdale Road, regroup and roll back to White Plains.
Total distance will be about 13 miles on BRP, 20 miles if you go to the optional White Plains tour.
Driving Information If you're driving, check maps.google.com for directions to 198 Central Ave, White Plains, NY 10606-1102 (Westchester County Center). Note that they usually close off the Bronx River Parkway exit off the Cross County Parkway, so you may have to take some local roads to White Plains.
A skater's car will probably be there or near start point to stash your shoes and bags.
Attention for bikers
You are skating/biking at your own risk. Helmet and Wrist Guards are required. Bring sun protection, water, and lunch money.
